Cheers for the advice zed on the plug welding, i was thinking of doing one and missing two, what did you do around the edges on the return lips?
Double/tripple tacks on the edge - I'm not a fan of plug welds for thin stuff, they can make a mess if you can't get the metal faces squeezed together with zero gap.
Nice to have a chat and a catch up, cheers for for the jack, will have to wait till next friday before it's opened, on-call till then
Was at a lose end tonight after work so did the last couple infill bits on the floor Areas that needed bits making up
Then welded them in, welds ground and a lick of paint to protect the bare metal Thats the lot for tonight
Done some more on the bus got not pics mind The remaining out riggers are all welded in, so thats the chassis finished off just needs cleaning up, seam sealing and then it all can be painted Got the gearbox out, gear linkage and a few others bits and bobs to make access for chassis painting better and to get bits checked over and cleaned up All so started to strip the impreza, have sold a fair bit of it on ebay like the front end and interior got the dash out to make life easier to remove the wiring loom should be fun sorting that lot out and trimming down to just what i need
Done some more on striping the impreza All the loom is now removed and now seating in the back awaiting modification some parts removed ready for engine extraction
By the end of next week i'm hoping to get the engine out + any other parts that i want to keep and get the shell scrapped Then i can get back on the bus, it's been nice having a break from welding
Also had an idea about my wheels I want to keep steel wheels on the bus when finished but have been thinking for a while about fitting some larger ones 16inch steels Having looked on the internet i knew that the PCD 5x112 of the camper was the same as all current 5 stud VW's, and as luck would have it i have a full size(labeled as a space save) spare in the my Jetta The only problem is that the hub bore on the camper is a lot bigger than the 16inch steel So armed with a spare rim i picked up yesterday and went on the hunt for an engineering shop to rebore the wheel for me, stafford engineering came up trumps with having the kit to do it and should have it done by the end of the week Using the jetta spare for illustration purposes this is the look i'm after Extra width compared to original but with 205/55 16 tyres the rolling radius is nearly the same More steel rim less sidewall and should to able to make the original chrome hub caps fit too Hopefully i'll be able to say "i love it when a plan comes together" when i get the tester wheel back
When you fit this engine are you going for the fellows adapter plate and their flywheel or for the rjes bell housing,or have you something else in mind?
Polo, fox and middle beetle 5x100, everything else from mk5 golf, jetta, passat, brand new beetle etc 5x112 http://www.wheelfitment.net/vw
I'm going for the fellows adapter plate, flywheel etc, been down and seen the parts and spoke to the guys made my mind up for me really, plus their local so handy if i need help
