Engine's done 80000 miles from new in 38 years and serviced to the max by the army, got full army service history from day 1 so its all in pretty good nick really and bottom end was never noisy so dont really see the point in splitting bottom end.
In that case I should think you're right on the sizes then, also no doubt being the army they'd fit a new crank/engine rather than have a re-worked one. Fingers crossed. Nothing to stop you having a look while you wait though.
Removed con rods and pistons earlier and everything seems in great condition but now i can see inside block i can see the camshaft looks very worn. I'm now really at the point of where i might as well split the bottom end and do a proper job on everything. Oh well more money, spent nearly 500 quid so far, bought a lovely stainless exhaust though, getting a bit ahead of myself methinks with that purchase. SSP manifold and a GSXR rear can , might be a bit loud but should look cool.

Read this earlier and thats exactally what my cam looks like so saved me some pictures and questions but i dont wanna be rebuilding in a couple of years like them so gonna go down the total rebuid route now and thinking of slipping in a mild cam, any recomendations , running weber 34 ict's, petronix ignition and above pictured exhaust. Just want it totally reliable and sadly dont have a limitless budget but i cant help myself when it comes to tuning things up a bit and its already got the big valve 1800 heads, 2000 conversion would be nice with my heads but its all money money money. At least i've got 2 months till we need the bus so i'm not gonna rush and muck things up.
Had a few bits chrome plated and a good mate got my inlet manifolds and air filter housings polished, full repaint on the tinware and a few braided hoses, dont look too shaby. Engine bay shine off next time we see you Birdy.
All bog standard but new bearings , valves and all the usual stuff, hopefully will be good for a few years now.

lol lol lol but very true mate, disaster averted with new 70 amp alternator, will up date on this once i've contacted the supplier of the alternator tomorrow. Just took the bus for its 1st 20 miles nice and easy and all seems ok but will give the engine a check over in the daylight tomorrow. Very satisifying to know you have done all the hard work yourself.
