1975 Swedish Army Bus

Discussion in 'Restorations' started by Chris G, Feb 6, 2012.

  1. Thought it about time i restarted our bus's resto thread. We purchased our bus to use as a daily driver, was so close to getting a T5 but we are so happy that we never did. The bus came from 30 miles from the artic circle and was in service with the Swedish Army till 2009 when it failed its 1st mot in 35 years so the army sold on to a local guy who then sold it to the bus station who imported it in 2010, they ran it round for a couple of months then we purchased it.

The rear interior was mostly missing but was a perfect starting point for me to tinker with while the wife runs round in it getting stuff for the pub we run. Could not believe how solid the bus was for what we paid.

Really individual bus - amazingly solid considering where it's been living all these years. :)

  7. The bus had never run quite right since we had it so i decided to in vest in a new set of carbs and now it runs sweet all through the rev range and has a wicked induction roar when you put your boot down.

Also had some bump steer bushes fitted to the front to stop the track rods banging on the chassis rails when you hit a big bump, also replaced the wheel bearings, discs, all track rods and steering damper while it was in bits.
Next i traced round my mates surf board table and used it as a template to make my own out of some marine ply i had lying around, a cheep table leg from flea bay, a few coats of varnish and 1 table sorted.

Did not do much to the bus for the next few months just used it for what it was meant for, lots of weekends away.

  8. Finally got round to finishing covering the last 2 door panels so the whole interior matches now.

  16. Decided we need a permenant cooker in the bus so we can at least have a cuppa any time when we are out and about. Picked up a cheep cooker at go outdoors so had a measure up and made myself a box that would also act as a seat.
