  1. The test verifys that the solenoid pulls in and energises the starter.

Can someone do a little diagram of where to hold my screwdriver, what two points to bridge.

  3. Pull off the (red/black?) lead from the ignition switch to the solenoid. Short that tab terminal to the big +12 stud on the back of the starter. The solenoid should go clunk, and the starter shoul turn.

Be careful nut to short the stud to the body of the starter.

Yes, the engine won't start but the stater motor should turn.

  9. You short it to the threaded stud with all the wires on.

  10. It will give you a fright ;)

And it WILL spark, which if not expected will make you jump, keep hold of the screwdriver so not to injure yourself

You can always tape a long wire to the starter stud and one to the solenoid that are both long enough to allow you to stand out the way and touch them together safely

"pull off the red/black lead from the ignition switch to the solenoid"

You mean disconnect the lead from under the dash?

  19. No, I mean pull off the lead with the transparent insulator in your pic.
