Installed 123 distributor with new chrome clamp from Limebug. https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/VW-Chrom...Engine-Beetle-T1-009-Bus-Ghia-T2/160817039190 Tried tightening it and it caused the dizzy to move up out of its seating. Had to force it down to tighten. There is still some movement in the dizzy. Is this normal / ok?? Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
Did you fit the spacer? I originally fitted mine without, but the position was a little up and down , ambiguous. The clamp made it nice and snug and also stopped the clamp nipping the 123 at none perpendicular angles
You should not force it down too much. There is a spring between the drive and distributor for a reason, if you just crush it down stuff will wear prematurely. If you are not confident about how far to push it down, buy the spacer. If you have the spacer ignore me and ram it down. Sounds like the pretty chrome clamp is just that.
I rammed it with a fury and yes the pretty chrome show pony is crap Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
The chrome clamps are not a lot more bendy than the not chrome original ones. They may not be pressed as accurately as originals, may need the bolt down part adjusted slightly. Its more user error doing up the clamp - only need enough clamp force to stop it vibrating out or rotating , not tightened metal to metal. As it says in several places. You can bend stock clamps up in exactly the same way overdoing the clamp nut. A hammer and a flat bit of metal will sort it.
Straighten it out and try again. You just have to nip the clamp up a bit. If you heave, it'll bend. A washer under the nut helps. No need to ram the dissy down. Just push it down till the drive dogs engage fully. It shouldn't move at all.
