I don't know how you have the time to watch it, I am hurrying to make my sausage sandwich as I am taking the Mrs to the pub for lunch on the sea front, if I don't eat it quickly I wont be hungry at lunchtime......
I can do that and do regularly, burying your head is alright if you’re secure in your environment and happy to be a lonely old fart, a lot of people can’t do that and have an avid interest in current affairs, a lot of them get depressed by it and aren’t able to switch off from the continuous doom and gloom.
Yeah, they don't live with me, I usually have them to stay for the summer, but you can't ask teenagers to spend 10 days locked up in the house, even tho' they are vaccinated they would have had to isolate, our stupid govt were refusing to recognise EU certificates. Did I mention Brexit?
I gave up mainstream TV (Sky, BBC,ITV etc) about 3 years ago now and don't miss any of it. Neither do the kids. It's all YouTube, Netflix and Prime now without the insane prices, adverts etc (I have YouTube premium to stop adverts for the modest cost that it is). I don't know anyone except my mum who does have regular TV.
Yes they can! Why on earth do you think they can't? I stopped watching the news probably about 20 years ago, well before I was a lonely old fart as you so kindly put it. Watching the news causes loneliness by making people afraid of their environment, it's not a cure. I am not lonely!
I know this sounds a bit harsh, but it's true. I stopped watching the news when I started living in CZ (mainly because I couldn't understand it ) but when I came back to the UK I very quickly learned that there's no point in changing my position. There are too many argumentative egotistical tossers on TV thinking they are the bees-knees or trying to position themselves as such. And it's not just TV, the news apps on my phone have been deleted or disabled, and I stopped social media. The actual news content on any of these platforms is demoralising, demotivating and depressing. Who needs that?
I want skateboarding dogs. The news is fine it’s all bad but it’s ok as come Monday they will have a new story for the week so that must mean last weeks has all been sorted
I think the Beeb has its share of awful journalists and some very good ones, same as other broadcasters, Kay Burley being a case in point in the “awful” category. None of them are perfect. Thing is if a BBC journalist gives the PM or a member of his cabinet a tough time in an interview (always admired Andrew Neil for that and was sad he left) it’s because of bias, if they go softly on them they’re not doing their job. They can’t win.
I don't watch news here in Italy, as it's boring and always the same. I have a quick look at BBC news on tinternet, I find that pretty much the same ol. I agree that it makes no bearing on your life. Utter twoddle.
