As shopping and chain restaurant venues go, the view looking out over the wharf to Gosport is the best I've experienced. The place is buzzing. The Fishbourne ferry we took sailed early to beat carrier HMS Prince Of Wales out of port, otherwise it would have been a 30 minute delay.

I'd always thought Southampton was nicer, but Portsmouth old town and wharf is much nicer.

The locals call it Old Portsmouth and you are right the waterfront restaurants have a great view over the harbour entrance, I sail my little yacht out of Portsmouth so know the place well. Glad you had a great time.

 

I live in gosport!! If i had known a late bay member was at gunwharf i would have come across for coffee!!! Hope you enjoyed your visit purple.

No, the tugs were alongside but we managed to head out before it left, there was a bit of sea haze to shore so we lost sight by the time we were mid solent.

 

Yes we did thanks - spent yesterday on the beach at Southsea near the pier. Managed a dip in the sea, albeit a painful barefoot stumble across the pebbles !

 

So it's the inside that's painted gold?
