Hi all, How's your Mpg? My engine is a 2lt Type 4 with original twin solex, I get, - Around town consistently get about 14mpg. - On a long run cruising around 60mph I get about 20mpg. I don't own the bus for economy, but just wondered what all you Auto owners get. Jim Sent from my SM-N970F using Tapatalk
I tend not to look and fortunately the wife pesters me to fill tank when it gets to half empty/full. Low mid 20's sounds about right on a run. ... Don't really check consumption around town driving as I don't do much of it. Looking on the Samba 20ish seems to be consumption on a run and 17mpg mixed running. There gallons are smaller but gives a indication of what to expect.
I have a Type 4 2.0 with a hateful EMPI progressive carb. I don't use it much locally and my fuel gauge is" iffy " to say the least. I work on 20mpg and fill up before each trip, so for example Techenders is 70 miles away I round it up to 80 and put in 4 gallons on the way there and 4 gallons on the way back, any extra runs around town.
MPG is a willy waving contest on Samba, I don't believe them, or it's downhill everywhere. I think that's fair for UK gallons/auto. If I got 20mpg out of mine (non-auto) I'd do a happy dance. I bet I could get it down to single figures if I tried.
I know you live near Peterborough Paul and they're a bit behind the times but surely even the six fingered fen dwellers have finally gone over to litres
74 2.0 auto running twin 40 Weber’s. Get low 20s mpg on a run, no idea around town as don’t use it for short journeys. I also work on 200 miles to a tank full. You have to remember your dragging along a 2 ton bread loaf, same aerodynamics as a motorized shed
Over the pond they tend to cover longer distances on mainly flat roads & no or very few roundabouts to slow them up.
Techenders and back to York was 21.3 mpg, not great I know. When I was doing more miles I used to get 22.5 overall. Round town best not to think about - 18 maybe. This is not much different to what I got with a manual.
Considering there’s only 3 gears in the auto box top gear has to be very tall. About 30mph right up to 80.....
That's good. Is that around town, or on a long run? What speed do you typically run at? Sent from my SM-N970F using Tapatalk
I got about 20 mpg with original Solex carbs on my 1800 and about the same with dual Weber ICT’s. This is with an early 003 automatic doing straight highway driving. The early automatic revs a little higher and has a lower top speed. With the vacuum modulated shifting, I have to keep my foot in it when accelerating onto the highway so it shifts into third at around 48 mph. If I let off, it’s chug chug, lug lug.
Wow, That's really good. What carbs? Is it all standard? Assume its a loaded camper, not a lightweight empty panel van? Sent from my SM-N970F using Tapatalk
