  1. Creative problem solving...

The T-trim i’ve added, to close the gap between roof rail and Devon Poptop plinth, has to be cut at the corners so just flaps about. The roof also can shift laterally a few mm however it comes down. That shift can mean it doesn’t seal properly.
These copper snakes should solve both issues.

Fitted a hot start relay. Found all the wires and the relay in a junk box in the bus at TE. 20210612_101448.jpg

The main thing is the clutch. It feels very stiff and bent the pedal last time out (September) and I lost clutch operation.
Still got the problem of no 1st gear.
Front disc brakes binding slightly - suspect servo and bought a Brazilian replacement to fit.
Weirdly the fan belt has twisted on the crank pulley. No idea why as it looks inline - I think?

So what did I do this week, fitted the jail bars to the rear window

  6. How on earth can you bend the clutch pedal ?

Brakes: have you got a small amount of free play in the m/c pushrod?

I think the pedal had been bent before and straightened badly. The stiff clutch was too much for it and it bent again and was hitting the steering box, so wouldn't work. I jimmied it a bit and got home. Should probably try and get a decent pedal first then check Bowden tube bend, I'm told. There's a repair to the floor around the pedal showing that it's not quite in the original position so that'll need sorting.
Yes there's a bit of freeplay on the pushrod. The old m/c had spewed brake fluid into the servo and it was about a third full and the bits all around the spring and damper are all a bit chewed. I thought I'd cleaned it up ok but I don't understand how they work really. Anyway I'll fit the Brazilian one and see - the rest of the brake components are new, pipes and all. Have to say they work really well except for the binding bit.

  9. And a bloody dangerous one if you take your eye off it! It literally ate one of my work gloves the other day - just snatched it up and ate it. Thankfully my hand wasn’t in it…

Certainly removes some crust, tho. Very pleased.

  10. Servo should be a easy fix. If they’re duff, they can start drinking your brake fluid. Must say I’ve had no probs since I changed all my brake pipes. Bit of a chore, but no leaks, and remote servo works well. Result!

Doubt your clutch probs are due to the flexi tube. If the redone pedal doesn’t fix it, may be prob with the release bearing or shaft. Fun, eh ;)?

Ah, so it was full of fluid because it was duff. Didn't know that was a symptom, just thought the m/c was fubarred. Good to know I didn't waste my money on the new one.

The clutch is all new. I bought the bearing but the pressure and driven plates came with an engine so although new I don't know what they are specifically. Don't know if there are that many options for the type 4 with the big flywheel?

  12. Possibly. The engine vacuum’s sucking, so if there’s maybe a split diaphragm or dodgy valve/seal, can hoover up your fluid.

No idea on type 4 clutches.

Do you reckon a faulty servo could cause the brakes to bind?

  14. No idea. Try it with your Brazzy servo ;)

Uprated pressure plates are available but I don’t know of anyone selling them in the UK, I’ve searched and can only find standard ones. But that wouldn’t cause a bent clutch pedal, there’s something very wrong somewhere, the clutch operation should be very light.

Damn, I have a spare new servo I might have off loaded on you!
    Binding could be...
Sticky brake pedal shaft, broken pedal return spring, no play between pedal and servo. Other things too but I guees it has new flex pipes etc already.
2l clutch is super light, something is wrong.

  17. Did your new ignition fix the problem?

  18. Fitted an external 12v socket to help power lights when camping... test light show worked a treat! Should look the part when the roof tent and awning is out - very pleased.

I thought it was an unlikely culprit.

Well, if it's an original not Brazilian, that would be easier to fit as I wouldn't have to do any mods. Would you sell it to me? Pretty please!
Yes all brake parts are new. Kunifer pipes, unions, flexis, backplates, calipers, wheel cylinders, handbrake cables, pads, shoes, master cylinder, brake pedal return spring - think that's everything. H/brake and shoes all adjusted and not too tight - only the fronts are binding. My hope is that the old servo I cleaned and refitted is causing it - is that even possible?
Clutch is a whole other worry. I'll do some more investigating.

I've had no luck fitting old servos, they sometimes work for a month or two. Never had one binding the brakes, typically they just stop working.
It's a Brazzy one, you think I'm made of money? lol I got it when I thought mine was bust but my cheap one way valve had melted shut and I forgot to return it.

I do wonder if you might have made a mistake with your pedals, it seems an odd coincidence that the brakes are binding and the clutch pedal bent?
