They’ve offered to cut out and actually do the welding I requested now for no charge. Got to say this is looking like one of the dodgy dealings I’ve had ever. You trust a garage with a good reputation, you pick it up in the rain, at the time I pointed out the surface rust, but assumed it was just flash rust. Got home and straight away it looked awful. Can’t understand why they’d do this. Possibly financially issues following covid?
So they've admitted they charged you for work not carried out. Get a refund and walk away - far, far away
The garage owner was not present while the ‘work’ was done, so is all confusing. refund is the only way out of this one
It really does look like that, but I just can’t bring myself to believe it. I’ll be sorting all this out in the next few days. Surely you can’t just wire brush the wings and prime them with a brush - mean surely ? That used to happen in back street garages in the 1970s and appear on That’s Life!
It's either incompetence or deliberate. If you can get your money back it doesn't really matter which.
It’s a classic VW specialist also, that’s what I can’t understand. Obviously I feel like a bit of an idiot now, but think of the situation - you get your work done by an established specialist, he is genuinely not around while the work is done, for real reasons that I know, you pick the car up, the lads have done the work and it looks much rougher than you want, but you’ve asked for welding so welding it is and painting can sort that out. It’s when you get back home and have a closer look that all your worst nightmare ms come true!
Said the lad working on it didn’t think it needed welding so just sanded it some how and rust cured it. Yep, you can imagine my reply when I’d paid a welding price!
Don’t think I’m taking this all too calmly, because I’m blinking livid! But you’ve got to stay cool and the owner has already offered to put it right, so let’s see what happens.
