The daughter wanted to have some friends round who live in a flat together.
As it was cold I raised the front of the van on ramps and for the first time since August 2020 I put the roof up.
They were that bloody comfortable they were all in the van drinking till late and the daughter was feeling worse the wear the next day.

I'm so tempted to spend the night in the van myself.....is that wrong?

  5. good to see an overall view of what you are up to. Glad you are only doing one lift on the matchstick scaffold. The KRend type finish looks good. Seen a fair few crack and blow off the substrate though and you’re a bit buggered ‘ ‘cos you can’t blend repairs like and and cement.

  7. I could barrow away 2000 ton in a morning and still have time for a cup o’ tea and a smoke

looks good and I’ll guide the customer towards horizontal fixing on the cedral - it is quite heavy I thought as I watched the labourers get it on the roof a couple of Months back.

Well at least this is Parex which has a better track record for that kind of thing ("allegedly") and which was the make of choice for the guy who rendered the new bit ... so I just stuck with that to match it up.
The scaffold will have more bracing on it!
Anyway I know what I'm doing with wood :)
Here's a hint of how the main frame went together ... This is unfinished "obvs" but it's a fixed triple glazed roof light ... single pane on the slate line and DG on the plasterboard line ... and you might be able to see that it's a "double rafter" roof with the purlin in between.
Looked at engineered rafters but too pricey and this is even better with thermal bridging ... blah blah!

Could be South Wales, North Devon or Scotland. Possibly Cornwall.

My guess is somewhere in Scotland because of only few houses...

  19. This is why I dislike plumbing. A brass tail in a cast iron radiator, dissimilar metal corrosion, no doubt; it certainly wouldn't shift.

The key just turned inside the tail, the pipe wrench couldn't get a grip. I had to chop off the collar nut with a hacksaw, then get the mighty footprints on the job, liberal squirts of WD-40 and the use of a hammer and wooden block to create an improvised impact wrench. Of course, one of our esteemed plumbers will be along shortly to tell me there was an easier way .

I have a nice new chromed TRV set to go in :) I may have to use PTFE tape on this one, however ;)
