My trusty Weller TCP, 36 years old. Looking a bit careworn, but still going strong. Might treat him to a new sponge. Metcals are the absolute Biz, but god they're expensive
I used to use a Weller TCP1 that I bought secondhand ex GPO in about 1975. By the time I had finished with it the only original part was the handle. These days I use one of those little TP100 temperature controlled irons on smaller stuff. Not quite up to the power of the Weller. I began soldering with an iron about a foot long with a 1/4 inch tip.
Having taken all the above advise, plus using me mates all singing and dancing kit I now can not believe how easy it is when I found it so hard before !!!!
