i thought that would be the case , held in by 6 bolts I think ,I may have a spare sender , perhaps it could be drilled and a pipe put in
Just been to the old mans and took off the cover plate this is what’s there @davidoft looks like twist in to me so I now have no idea.
That is a not too good short cut. The fuel tank acts as a cooler for the fuel which is heated up by the powerful petrol cooled electric motor in the FI pressure pump, and the heat from the engine. If you just loop it back your fuel will get hotter than it needs to, maybe boiling. Even with a swirl pot you still need a circulation of low pressure fuel with the tank to keep it cool. Anybody who thinks sparks and petrol dont mix and runs FI or a Carter rotary fuel pump has a demonstration of a brushed sparky electric motor submerged totally in petrol where it cannot burn because there is no oxygen.
A few people that i had read about who had done the tee piece for the return had had problems on long journeys with the fuel getting hot which was another reason i wanted to change the tank and looking at the sender photo above i should be alright.
Like I said I only read it somewhere don't even know where and doesn't apply to me as I already have a fuel injection tank fitted just need to get a fuel injection pump
So new tank has arrived and looking at mine the vapour lines have been butchered from what I’ve seen originally they cross over on the top of the tank but mine are like this does it matter and if I need to extend them can I use copper tube as a replacement.
I have a slightly different setup than described above which may give another option, I have a 2.0 8v engine fitted from a Mk3 golf. I bought a new tank with the big threaded outlet on the bottom and 6mm pipe outlet next to it. I got a 10mm outlet and nut from Perry at Fellows Speed shop which feeds a mk2 Golf Gti fuel pump with a built in swirl pot. This pump has a return to the tank, along with flow and return to the engine and operates at high pressure. Pics are in my Gti conversion post in the modified shizzle area Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
