Has anyone purchased one off these kits,I’ve been told by my Vw guy to buy litesteer but it comes in at £1000,but like everything in life you pay for what you get,and these kits are cheap on eBay,spoke to andy the guy selling them and he seems on the ball♂️♂️♂️
I have power steering on my van. One of the best mods possible for me. I live in London and I park on the street. *Everyone* has parking sensors now and they don't often leave enough room to 'rock' a van backwards and forwards enough to get out. I actually got tennis elbow from trying to get out of a parking spot a few years back and decided that it was either power assisted steering or the van would have to go. Mine was a professionally fitted litesteer unit though, and it cost a fair bit more than this.
The fella that sells them lives in Crawley, I've actually driven it around the car park where he lives and for the money they are pretty good, he's got a mate down on the south coast who fits them for £400 , I think @Gingerbus lives on his estate in Crawley

Yeah I messaged him and we came to a good deal,got a guy who can fit it,but his a little how I would say unreliable
Btw, you asked about indicator stalk stuff the other day... I think that when my steering column was disassembled to fit my power steering, something wasn't quite put back together right. If you do have someone fit yours, make sure you don't have any wiggle in the stalk box afterwards. Sent from my SM-N9500 using Tapatalk
In general the cheaper version lack automation, you have to turn it on and off/adjust it as you go. The lightsteer one is like a car - the faster you go the less assist. I've also driven one - very nice.
They use your column o matron, they cut it in half and weld a bit in I think it's pretty simple if you can weld, I was very impressed
If I were you I would go with Litesteer who fit them for you and it will under a warrantee of some sort - better to be safe than sorry - IMHO it's worth the extra £250 for peace of mind.
Steve what I think you do is set it once how you like it and leave it, If I remember it was set on a low assist but it was good
That's ok trotting around london but not at speed on the motorway, it's dangerous. I drove a late 70's Granada 2.8 once and they were like that - one false twitch at 90mph you'd have been toast.
Is that a universal joint I can see in the ad? Would that do away with the rubber donut coupling to the steering box. Great if so, but if not then the power assist would presumably exert a lot of twisting effort on the old donut especially at low speed parking etc and risk deforming it.
I've had Litesteer on mine for three to four years now and am very impressed with it. I can't say how the eBay ones compare though as I've never driven one but Zedders makes a very valid point. I'm fairly certain that the rubber donut was removed but it's too wet to go out and double check.
Litesteer uses the original box, so it’s no more movement at the wheel than before. I’d have a guess that other one does the same as it looks similar and the column fitting process sounds similar too. Litesteer uses a Vauxhall Corsa mechanism I believe. I haven’t tried to get to 90 on the bus. I once did 80 and that was scary enough.
