I'm sure I'm doing something obviously wrong here but just went to fire up my Bus after completing my ICT install and the accelerator pedal is sat on the floor. Have I missed something or coincidentally a spring has just somewhere?
Sounds like the front is the problem as per snotty if you’ve just installed it but if not make sure you did the barrel nut up properly on the linkage. What linkage are you using?
Crappy empi but there is still plenty of slack on the cable so it's not dragging it to the floor if that makes sense? Just seems to be sagging under it's own weight?
The van fired up btw. Has a bit of popping from the left side though so I wonder if there may be a leak. Running super rich too as I haven't a fuel pressure gague to set the regulator. All rooky mistakes I know...
Feeling around underneath the pedal I can't feel anything and I assume I would feel this part running along the floor?

Do you mean that they essentially support the weight so the spring under the pedal is able to keep the pedal up thst end? Remember there is slack in my cable so it's not being dragged down by the linkage.
You can pop an additional spring under the van which will probably be more use than the pedal spring....fit it from accelerator lever to somewhere on chassis.

I had the csp linkage for twin 40s on my bug and it needed an additional spring as the carb springs weren’t strong enough.
The spring under the pedal balances the weight of the pedal. The spring on the linkage pulls the cable back. The spring(s) on the carb(s) shuts the carbs. Big springs on the carbs could do all, but would wear the throttle spindle bushes.

You do need the cable to be tight enough that the pedal is right up at idle. No slack ; or only a mm or two! This is regardless of springs. There is only 17mm of travel on a stock accelerator cable from pedal up to on the floor, you dont want to waste any travel on slack or your bus will go like a Nissan Micra. The return spring on the linkage bar should lift the pedal. Relying on just the carburettor return springs can cause extra wear as the whole linkage is permanently under tension. Its probably one reason there is a weakish return spring on the pedal- stops it permanently pulling on the cable at idle. So there should be.. Spring under pedal. Spring on linkage bar lever or similar. Springs on carburettors. All set up to leave the throttle cable just slack at idle.
Ok so I need to fish out my linkage bar spring and reinstate it. The pedal was fine before I boxed it up.
