It’s a hot day, my leisure battery has just exploded...... attached to 100w solar panel with Victron Controller. Not much else to say other than stay safe everyone !! Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
I see its i Halfords battery , Two year guarantee . If still in warranty take it to them see what they say . I've had no issues taking battery's back to them
Check the settings on your victron controller!! Make sure you wear gloves and eye protection when cleaning it all up. Sent from my Pixel 4 using Tapatalk
I've got the 110Ah version of that in my engine bay. That means about 45% more explosion if it goes bang...
Thats because you left the little temperature sensor plugged in the controller rather than fitted to the battery. The battery got to over 40C and went into thermal runaway. Any brand of charger where the temperature sensor is cooler than the battery can do this. Victron is one of the best brands. Let that be a lesson to all of us with epEver controllers too...
The epEver and my £20 eBay special charge controllers both have plug in battery temperature sensors basically a diode you are meant to install on an extension cable and mechanically but not electrically fit to a battery terminal . Think heatshrink and cable tie. The Sterling alternator booster ( £100 4 stage battery charger conversion for alternator) on my boat even came with a sensor crimped in a ring terminal to bolt to the battery clamp. My epEver gets hotter than the engine bay as the sun shines on it.. Its out with the heatshrink and some wire tomorrow for me !
Exiting afternoon I ended up putting compost on it... don't really know why - seemed a good idea and it was all I had - I can replace with baking soda though??
I think though that the acid is weakest if you have a fully charged battery .. TBH if its got wet with acid spray anywhere its best to dismantle what you can , neutralize with baking soda then hose off thoroughly then dry it. Baking soda e.g. in the form of fire extinguisher powder will also lead to rust.
