Better quality HT leads?

  1. I know , i stopped using them for that very reason .
If i`m not sure about a certain part i like to speak to a real person who actually know their business , in that respect even JK seem to shine ...

  2. The 8mm leads are ok in theory but the reality is i just found them annoying trying to route around the fan housing and associated junk without clipping them into the plastic holders - they`re obviously too big at 8mm !!
You`re welcome to try `em if you want @SkutterBob , PM me your address and i`ll pop `em in the post ...

  3. You can still get the Bosch long 109mm cap for cylinders 2&4, cylinders 1&3 use a type 1 cap.

  4. The Taylor leads are indeed a pain in the bum. The rubber seals don't actually clip into the tinware, so you need to cut off the ridge at the bottom. There's no positive "click" to tell you they actually attached to the plugs. And they're too wide for the standard clips.

I've got them, but wouldn't buy them again. A nice set of Berus should do fine.

  6. They`re not Taylor , i bought them on holiday in the states `on a whim` so to speak . Supposedly `hi performance` with carbon cores etc etc - Seemed like a good idea at the time .

    Like i need `Hi performance` anything ....

  9. Are they for a type 1 or type 4?

  10. No long nose pliers look on YouTube but may do in future like having tools

  15. Mmm. They are a little bit short just could do with an extra inch. The worst part is that they can't fit to spark plug 3 as my rubbish empi manifolds have a balance pipe in the way. It is always a nightmare getting this spark plug out.

Will be buying CB performance ones asap as they are taller and have better positioning for the balance pipes.

    Question:

Do the manifold to head gaskets go on dry or do I need to add sealant?

  16. Just a smear

  18. Got it all fitted and can finally get to spark plug 3 without a lot of swearing.

Had to buy longer CSP carb linkages as I realised that I wasn't getting full throttle when I struggled to get up a hill halfway into a 100 mile journey.

Still feel like a I have a miss-fire though. The bus doesn't jump but the rev counter occasionally dances about. I have Accuspark electronic ignition and always carry a spare so will swap it out tomorrow.

  19. Yup - as I thought, swapping out the Accuspark for the spare sorted the jumpy rev counter. Bus still sounds different though after fitting the CB performance manifolds - a bit more rattly. I checked the tappets and they were good. Might just sound resonating in the bigger manifolds. Maybe there is nothing wrong and this is new normal.

Ran it into town and it ran like a dog and cut out twice. Pulling away was a struggle. Got it back and checked the timing to discover that I hadn't tightened the dizzy properly and the timing was well out.

  20. Fitted Cb s/p manifolds on our beetle wasnt impressed with quality hope the t/p ones are better. Did you smoothe out inner castings. ?? Is linkage better than hex type ??
