My project should be finished but due to the headlining I am faced with removing the interior and windows to have it done again. It was professionally done by a company that claim to be the finest auto trimmers in the south east. Looked ok at first so I carried on, six months on it all fell off. They came back and stuck it back on....

That's awful. It's the glue donchaknow. Knowing what a problem this can be I ripped it all out of the one bus I owned that had it and spray canned it.
I wouldn’t be at all impressed if that’s how mine turned out and I’d done it myself, I’d be in a right pi55 with myself for doing such a low grade job. I’d then be taking it off and looking at ways to make it bettererer/ decenterer or proper. Either by changing the materials and adhesives used or trying different techniques. And I gotta say, my bus is a right shed and several miles away from being a show stopper Ozziedog,,,,,,,,,, I’m definitely not a trimmer of any description
If they wont do anything about it, you are in deep water there. Because it has headlining instead of paint that bus needs all the windows out and a lot of work removing all the lumps of glue and foam backing, to get to a smooth surface. Then you will probably have to repaint parts because the metal will be uncovered in places by scrapers. To me it looks like a combination of several things - Wrong glue with insufficient temperature rating where it has peeled away Pulling it too tight in places. Using old materials where the foam has already broken down while it is in storage at the upholsterers, giving a short service life. Basically that type of headlining lasts about 10 years before the foam rots.
There is no foam... headlining glued directly to newly painted bus ... And I wouldn’t let them anywhere near it again ..
It was hard to tell, on some headlinings there is a thin foam backing glued to the backing fabric. The underlying patterns looked quite like attempts to reglue foam backed material. So its paint and glue reacting as well if the paint didnt completely harden off before the glue solvent lifted it. I think I would swear loudly and rip it all off and DIY clean up and paint it. That pleather texture traps dirt and mould..
Nor would I. Nor would I want to let someone else "have a go". Nor would I want to have a go myself as I'm rubbish at gluing things and/or glue makers lie about the effectiveness of their products.
Very amateur job - I can understand your being annoyed - looks like a beginner has done it - or something I had tried and failed at. I think I would peel it off and make do with the bare paint.
In an inconspicuous area try a bit of gentle heat from a hair dryer, it can help the vinyl soften a bit and level off. I don’t think you’re being fussy either. I wouldn’t be happy if I paid for that. if I’d achieved that, I might be over the moon!
This ^^ The only thing I have actually glued successfully was my fingers to the hoover handle the other day, Dont use super glue after a few Stellas would be my recommendation. Half an hour I was carrying the hoover around before we took the handle off lol
I enlisted the services of an established local trimmer to put a headliner in a bus recently, and he too was shoddy as fook.. creases and sags, joins where they shouldn't be etc. I had him come out and do it again, but still pants, so ended up redoing it myself. It still wasn't perfect as its not my forte, but it was better than the "professional" job... There must be some decent trimmers about somewhere??
If they still exist, and I think there are still a few, you need a trimmer who has worked in a car factory trimming cars non stop for decades...maybe. Then again, Lotus for instance, their cars fall to pieces.
Mine is far from perfect but was done by a mate and he did a better job than i would have done .. It`s not the end of the world but you are right to not have them back - it might be a step backwards but i`d certainly contemplate tackling the tidy up yourself - you`ll probably do a better job .... You could ring and tell them you`ve had it sorted properly and thanks for the offer but you`d prefer to let someone else sort it out - that`ll hurt more than getting them back as they know you`ll turn trade away when asked for an opinion on their work . Personal recommendations count for a lot these days and i`m happy to say the clown who "painted" mi van closed down last year , he could have had work from several folk who asked me how it went - needless to say he didn`t ... For anyone down North `That London` way here`s one trimmer i`d recommend , he`s not that cheap but VERY good .. That certainly doesn't look like the type of result you expect from someone advertising as it being their chosen profession. If you'd tried it yourself, fair play, but No that's not what you should expect for a paid service. I'd ask for my money back, and then either have a go yourself after researching glue / foam combinations etc or get try to find a good upholsterer with personal recommendations (preferably from folk on here, depending where you live). Or as others say, go down the paint route for around the windows, - although scraping all the glue off won't be fun, it might work out best in the long run. It must be very disappointing having come so far, and be so close to finishing, but don't lose heart.
