Well it is known as The Windy City... ...perhaps they can’t keep it in. Sorry. Shall I fetch my coat? Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
Mine played Bingo, went to the British Legion, and collected cigarette coupons. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
My children's Granny's sister had a good go at it. A drug addled Formula one groupy. Her mother ran off with a POW in the war, stole a racing yacht in dover, sailed to France and was promptly arrested. The POW was no ordinary one, his uncle was Fritz Todt, not a nice man. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Fritz_Todt Page one of all the papers. Then she moved to Canada finally deserting her children, changed her name and now claims to be descended from French Royalty. I wish I'd known all that before I married into that family.
My Nan used to run outside during the Blitz and shake her broom at the German bombers. Not a terribly effective defence against a Heinkel full of high explosive, but I like to think she made her point.
We used to have our summer hols at my nans and every morning she'd wake us up with a scalding hot cup of tea at 5am. I was only 5 or 6. Eventually the sentence was commuted to 6am, but you should have seen her literally wringing her hands, worried about the wasted daylight. She was also fond of killing seawater things slowly in fresh water and boiled bacon rather than frying it. Quite nice actually.
Organisation Todt were responsible for building all the Nazi fortifications during the occupation of Guernsey in ww2 making it part of Hitler's Atlantic Wall. The organisation used eastern European slave labour and stories of cruelty are well known.
