Go for landsail commercial I used them for thousands of miles on my T4!, I have them in the bay too and at £50 a corner they were very good. They did used to be a bit pants but have really come on recently. I would have gone for them on the T5 but I did a bit of continental driving in her last year and went for Firestone’s for extra peace of mind, but at £115 a corner.

  4. They’re 205/16 on the back 195/16 front , drives lovely and smooths out the smaller bumps. Everything else is standard. Speedo is still spot on accurate against a gps dash app but feels better geared, 1.8 with 6rib box!

I’ll probably just take the wheels off and take them up the local tyre place. I know them both pretty well up there.

What’s a 3 rib box? The gearbox? I think mine has 3 ribs. You got a pic of one please? I’ll have a look tomorrow.

Is the 5 rib a highway flyer, or something? Higher geared? I think I read about them once a long time ago.

  11. No I think highway flier is a custom build by someone...

tends to be 3 rib on type1 engines up to 73 6rib on type 4's from '75 .. 5 rib was only out for one or two years 74ish and prob closer to a 3 rib.

6 ribs are considered to be the toughest and better for cruising due to tallest 4th gear.

...but not always..mostly due to swapping out.. messing about

  12. 6 rib is the newer 091 gearbox fitted from model year 76 to 1.6l & 2.ol engines and T25's, reverse light switch on the side, up till then it was the 002 gearbox reverse light switch on the end. 091 is the strongest gearbox with a better 3rd 4th gear hub, different final drive ratios between 1.6 and 2.0l engines.

  14. You may find yourself in 4th gear very quickly.

It might not be fitted, there's a blanking plug usually fitted if it's not there.
