Rerouted the speedo cable to the other side of the track rod and it now hits on left hand turns. Compounded the last panel too.
Wondered if it was possible to polish the gravel guards i have. Both started off like this. After a bit of a polishing session i've ended up with one like this. Still needs a bit more work but its better than it was. Don't want it looking too new.
Spent a while say in the sun this afternoon sanding the peeling laquer off a KN wheels 8 spoke. Still a few stubborn bits that paint stripper wouldn't touch and the sandpaper barely scratched.
No, just well attached lacquer. The patches where moisture had got under it lifted off in sheets but the good bits are a PITA to remove. 240 grit barely touched it so went with 80.
Mudflaps fitted. Retro Cars and car conversions magazine sticker. August 1970 magazine with beetle content.
Got given a few goodies yesterday. No, not these three. Some chrome vent trims for the bonnet and engine lid, some gravel guards and a hazard switch knob with the triangular warning symbol. Also got a towbar.
Been giving the towbar mounting brackets a clean up today as everything was coated with underseal as is the towbar. Gonna hopefully get it all cleaned up and painted while the inlaws are still away as i can hang it up in the garage where theres space. Found an offcut of mahogany so gonna use the FIL's lathe and make a gearknob a bit like this.
Gave the running boards a wire brushing and a coat of rust cure before wrapping them in cling film to stop it drying out too quickly.
Great work...I'm particularly impressed with your ability to get usable pieces of clingfilm off a roll !
Gave the running boards a scrub after removing the cling film and they came up pretty good. Gave the undersides a coat of paint before the heavens opened and it *******ed it down for 10 minutes. Topside given a coat of black paint too. Cut the carpet for under the bonnet. Still have some leftovers but not enough to do anything useful with.
Replaced the centre of the hazard switch with an earlier one with the triangle on. Fog light switch now has a working bulb in it too.
Put the covers back on the running boards. Bit tatty looking so gave them some black boot polish. Much better. Headliner material in cream perforated vinyl. Just need to finalise my the roof measurements and for the edging to arrive and i can get them made. Printed some 1970s polo wrappers and chewing gum wrappers to go in the centre console.
