i have mine serviced every year - maybe the filter got missed? mind you i did do a few miles last summer
here http://thelatebay.com/index.php?thr...ine-i-fitted-it-i-hope-i-can-forget-it.76000/ just reading that thread has panicked me - if i don't get to mechanic before techenders it'll be a tense drive until i can get there and someone who knows stuff can have a look and check everything - i really wouldn't trust me doing it I think i need more tea now
7.6mmm hose for 8mm tails, 5.6mm hose for 6mm tails. Don’t use hose the wrong size, if it’s too small it will split, if it’s too big it will leak. Not that old myth again. There is nothing wrong with worm drive clips but they must be the correct size, just like a nut and bolt clip.
I used this hose has been fine for 4 years. I think the key with all fuel hoses is to make sure it’s cliped away from the hot bits https://www.advancedfluidsolutions.co.uk/55mm-id-732-100-bio-fuel-hose-diesel--petrol-2015-p.asp
Yep, good point, all my tails were the bigger ones or were stepped so do both; worth checking that. Possibly, I won't argue the case! Most of the vendors call the nut and bolt style, "fuel hose clips" and sell kits that include nut and bolt style clips rather than jubilee clips, perhaps it is just convention and nothing else.
Neither the worm drive or the nut and bolt clips are perfect, they both exert an uneven clamping force around the hose but the nut and bolt clips are cheap and do the job well enough. If the hose is the correct size and fitted to a barbed tail a clip really isn’t necessary at all. EDIT: Have a look at the ‘Fuel Hose Clip Selection’ about ¾ down the page. http://www.volksbolts.com/faq/fuelhose.htm
i'm thinking i need to get it to Peter before techenders... I know this is a wussy response to something that may be relatively simple but after the problems i've had with engines, i don't think my nerves could take a long drive without knowing it's been sorted by someone who knows what they're doing
Not a wussy plan at all.... there’s plenty of time to learn and do stuff like that. Give yourself a break once the rust busting is done, you’ve worked bloody hard over this past 6 weeks!!! Techenders will be a chance to kick back, have a few beers and a laugh, maybe a few little jobs with friends around to join in and help.... and will be all the better if you feel Trevor has been looked over by Peter (lecture over )
Interesting read, thanks. Again it makes the point about having the correct size hose for the tails/barbs.
Just got to keep pushing on now - time is not on my side. maybe i should put peter on standby? I just thought that changing those may be easy while trevor's up in the air but i don't think i'd be confident in choosing the right bits and doing it just yet. Hmmm, maybe i kidnap peter to come and do it at the workshop on top of the world? i reckon i could bundle him in the beetle
Forget metal fuel filters. The plastic ones are best so you can see if they are getting dirty inside. The big Meyle one I mentioned is cheap and durable and you can see any particles collecting in it. You don't need any fuel cut off stuff. Keep it simple.
Yep that works. Fit the plastic filter just after the tank, as suggested previously. Something like this, assuming you have a mechanical fuel pump and 6mm tails. https://www.machine7.com/product.php?xProd=13193
Or just change them at regular service intervals, as you would any other vehicle, shouldn't need to keep that close an eye on things unless you've got issues.
Last night started with continuing getting rid of old waxoyl from the underside of the cargo floor. This was made a little less comfortable as mick wanted to drop the ramp and get the front wheels off to start on the n/s inner arch where there was looking to be a problem. Eek. The underside was now too high to kneel or sit under to work on and too low to stand up. No pic but I looked like Theresa May trying to curtesy when @Lasty dropped by.
As the new consignment of h80 hadn’t arrived (it came today) i eventually gave up and started scraping off the o/s front arch underseal. I did offer @Lasty a scraper but he politely declined After seeing the front n/s arch, wresting the passenger seat out - and also realising how much stuff I have secreted behind/under the passenger seat - I was a bit worried about the o/s. Phew. It was looking ok. I didn’t get to strip it all and did find a small bit of crumbly stuff at the rear of the inner arch but...
