Hmmmm, that could solve a problem if the price stays low. (And if it works any better than mine!) Well spotted! Collection only though. I'll watch it and see, as it's got 6 days to run. Ta.
Reading a thread over on early, http://www.forum.earlybay.com/viewtopic.php?f=4&start=0&t=29522&sid=8ba1d86518ffe6f314b5d2f3cac6c8a7 it does look like I had it the right way round before - ie the way that it doesn't work (plastic spigot 'in', brass spigot 'out') so a replacement thermostat does look like the answer.
Oops. Too quick. Should be able to buy these things if you can't find a used one. VW put them on many things. Can even still get them from your friendly VW dealer (for a price). Worth fixing it up, as a) your hot air supply will work properly and b) so might your engine...
Yes. I checked back through all the engine bay photos I've got of Clem, from the ones before I bought him, ones I took after I'd only owned him a week, all the way through - the pipes have always been the same way round. I'm going to face it, the thermostat is fubarred, and it needs to be replaced Yeah, and having taken it apart and looked, I think I could safely fit a new one now - it's just finding a new one should I need to: only VWH so far, and they are out of stock. A good 2nd hand one would be ideal. Thanks all, once again
Sarah If you look up South west Vw on face book there’s a guy selling one for £75 Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
As an aside .... Just wondering if the Beetle airbox has a similar system and valve ?? Having never owner one i would`t know ... @1973daisey ?? And others on here ... @Flakey , did i see a pic of one on a trailer recently ??
I think the ideal situation would be to just replace the non-functioning vacuum temperature control valve that lurks in the top of the air cleaner, rather than the whole thing - but obviously if a working 2nd hand one is found, I could just do a transplant. My actual oil bath is in pretty good nick, and the bottom part of the temperature flap control vacuum affair seems to work, so no point replacing stuff that aint broke. I messaged the guy on ebay that @paneuropaul posted the link for, to see if the thermostat in his oil bath was functioning, so he said he would check and get back to me. As it involves sucking pipes and stuff to check, I wholeheartedly would not blame him if he filed me under 'completely mad' and decided it wasn't worth the effort!! I've tried searching for a new part, but VWH seem to be the only suppliers and they are currently out of stock of the part that @snotty posted a picture of below, although it has changed to 'coming soon' since the weekend. It doesn't mention this part being any good for a T2, only Caddy vans, Golf Mk2 etc (early 80s to early 90s) so is this a good fit if they get more stock or am I looking at the wrong thing as a replacement? Any ideas please?
Maybe some kind soul would be willing to pull there oil bath out and get you a pic and part number of the one fitted to there’s
I think that would be slightly over and above the call of duty! I can get mine out again on the weekend, detach the part and have a look for the part number, I just wondered if anyone knew offhand if the one pictured was actually the right bit as it’s not actually listed as being for anything pre 1981 on the VWH website. Working 2nd hand is probably the best option
Part no 035129630B? There seems to a lot of Oil bath filters on www.picclick.co.uk Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
