It would be interesting to see if you can find an actual leak in the diaphragm and how big it might be possibly if you can`t see it, rig some sort of leak test. Ozziedog,,,,,,,,,,,,,Lot of rubber problems lately.
Bit of an update just back from weekend away Not in van. Straight to work decided to check fuel pipes again and carbs. Took top off carbs to check floats n valve all seem good floats float etc Started to rain so will look at fuel pump tomorrow night after work. Tools n bits at the ready bonus is I found 10l of oil I forgot I had new so just need to get an oil filter tomorrow.

Doesn't the link say extra pipe is vent ? "Extra vent/drain on the underside vents via an appropriate hose through the lower tinware."
Unknown territory for me I'm afraid, as I've only ever had one type four and that's under my bench in the garage and he just stares at me moodily when I'm in the garage. I'll have to take him on one of these days and show him who's the boss. Unfortunately it's two against one as he's got a big mate with him with six ribs he reckons. You don't want to hear this but those replacement Type 4 pumps are highly suspect. The one I bought is in the bin; it had a very sticky/gritty action and I don't think it could keep up with the revs - hence a recovery truck from the M25 for me after a few miles. Others have reported that the pivot pin falls out. It's misleading because VWH's first picture is of a pucker pump but the second two are of what you actually get. It might not be made in China but it might as well be. You are best off looking out for a good second hand one and then stripping it and checking its diaphragm before fitting.
As said the repro pump is suspect and the one my son had went straight in the bin and he went electric pump and fine since. The repro pump as shown is poorly made and the actuating arm inside was rough and not smooth action as the original was, shame the original diaphragm wore out as it was a good pump. I would go electric if I were you, lots have on here.
Who knows? I think mine is original and is still going after 39 years and 75k miles and has had some exposure to the dreaded ethonal. And it is possible to refurb them. I used to worry about it. Now I carry a spare and worrying about something else instead.

So all fine and dandy with the fuel pump. So far. solex pdsit now seems to have a leak great. Looks like camping in a tent this weekend Checked all top half float float valve Leak seems to be coming from the side rear diaphragm
I'll post some pics seems the leaky smell petrol was from the cable throttle spindle is that possible? Not really got the time for a rebuild and as luck would have it mot due soon. Bugger

If your carb is leaking fuel from the throttle spindles then your float valve is stuck open or the height not set correctly or your fuel pump is putting out to much pressure
yeah i think its the new fuel pump..... strange its only the rh and not the lh carb. ill keep looking... ta
At Techenders we found a PDSIT with the float assembly assembled in the wrong order - Bentley manual has pictures. Also needle valve was jammed and dirty but came back to life with wiggling and blowing. Also stripped screws holding on cover.
Sorry mate just picked this up. I fitted a manual fuel cut off and parked downhill. Didnt Need to park downhill after I fitted the manual cut off (very easy and cheap by the way, 10minutes Max). This sorted it for me.
