Theresa May loses televised debate shocker

Discussion in 'General Discussion' started by SweeneyTodd, May 29, 2017.

  1. Corbyn with alleged reported historic links to IRA, ETA and who apparently regarded Hamas & Hezbollah as friends, and dont forget the Iranian payment. In the future, maybe 30 years time or so long after Corbyn and this current lot of politicians have long gone would it be deemed acceptable to consider voting for a current ISIS and Al Qaeda sympathiser in as prime minister?

  2. I didn't mind Mrs may at the start of this campaign. I normally listen to pmq's each week and she seemed to handle it quite well, especially in the face of the early Corbyn performances which were woeful.

I have to say though she's gone right down in my estimation. I think she's handled several key questions poorly and at times has seemed to flap a bit under fire. I think I will still vote conservative as I don't see the others as a viable alternative but I don't have the confidence in her I had a few weeks ago. Sending amber rudd to fight her battles just a couple of days after the death of her father was poor form in my book. She'll get my vote but she'd bloody well better step up her game a bit. If she doesn't she won't see out a full term as the 1922 committee will hang her out to dry.

I have to say that Tim Farrons comment did really make laugh! Childish but funny, imho

"Where do you think Theresa May is tonight?" Farron said. "Take a look out your window. She might be out there sizing up your house to pay for your social care." :)

7 year ago my mother had a 90,000 grand flat and capital of about 50 to 60 grand . This february she died with dementia with just over 24 grand -- thanks to a labour policy

  9. I think the plan was...big majority plasters over the cracks and allows the nasty mandate to be delivered. I can understand someone voting tory if that best represents their views. If that is the case then frankly I think they need to look to their conscience and will as nasty policy after nasty policy is rolled out. I wonder what exactly it was that we did that made them hate us so much. or is it just to get as much out of those who have little influence, other than actually at an election, to ensure the haves continue to have more. If you aren't a "have" then why would you vote for them.

  10. the truth will out for all politicians eventually! not just the ones that the tory press seek to destroy (with a little enhancement).

It does make me laugh how blinkered people become when discussing politics.
"Ours are all great, yours are all *****"
"No, ours are all great, and yours are all *****".
Its funny, because the fact is, they're all *****.

  16. Hi dicky

I'm definitely what is termed a floating voter. I've voted labour twice, conservative and ukip. I tend to make my mind up each time and often I don't know which way I will vote till quite close to the actual day.

I'm definitely not a 'have' far from it. I'd class myself as a just about managing sort of person. Especially in the summer as my work is so seasonal.

I've decided that on balance this time, due to brexit, the need for a stable economy and the need I feel to limit numbers coming into this country, or at least limit their entitlement to public services until they have paid into the pot, that this time I'm voting Tory. I don't think that makes me a nasty person or that I need to examine my conscience. I think that a labour government is more likely to increase taxation to pay for all their promises and I just can't afford to pay anymore at the moment. I already pay money to several charities each month. At some point I have to keep some for myself. My conscience is clear. If we ever meet I'm sure you'll realise I'm not a monster.

Its funny how people that are "in" to politics feel the need to belittle those with differing opinions. Brexit was exactly the same; with all those admitting to having voted Brexit, being labelled thick / racist etc.

Absolutely sure you're not a monster and respect your decision.
Here's a snippet from the Telegraph's synopsis of the Tory Manifesto.
    'Tax
David Cameron’s tax "triple lock”, which guaranteed there would be no rise in national insurance, VAT or income tax, will be scrapped in favour of a general statement of intent to lower tax and simplify the tax system.
There will be no increase in the level of VAT.'

So they're not going to increase VAT, good news but are scrapping DC's triple lock on NI and Income Tax. So if they're not intending to raise NI or Income Tax why not leave the triple lock in place? When it comes to politicians, general statements and intentions are the first to be abandoned.

the labour party are adding daily to the groups they are trying to by off - yesterday football fans - today rail season ticket holders - who tomorrow
i am all for supporting the needy but labour is trying everybody - as a pensioner do I need the winter payment? not really
and the first thing they will say if they get into power is " the previous government left us worse off than we thought sorry no freebees"
but what is really really scary is they haven,t really said anything about brexit and if they do get into power it will more than likely as a minority government with the support of the jocks

i am now off to start a new business making car stickers which will say " don,t blame me i didn,t vote labour"
