Modern cars have yards of exhaust pipe and multiple silencer boxes. I wonder if you could send to a header then half way round the bus through a couple of boxes?
I'll never do it of course, though there's no shortage of old exhaust parts around here to play with if I did want to. Maybe one for the future.
It doesn't surprise me. All us old codgers want powerful engine's, but quiet ones so the wife doesn't suspect anything.
Mine's getting a turbo strapped to it, so I need to do something interesting with the exhaust system... Understatement Also really not good for engine life for a low rpm engine... What rpm did spitfire engines run at?
I might have an old header. I will have a look, have a chat with Rob, and I might, just for fun, bodge something up with some modern car engine silencers.
I bought an empi one which was very quiet. @Top Banana Racing mow has it. Wasn't expensive, around £100. Usual empi quality, had to persuade it to fit of course
wiki says 3krpm... lower than I anticipated, now I need to go and read more about them, as I'm guessing at 27l, then the short manifolds work due to it being greater than 1l per cylinder...
Hit me if I'm being stupid but y are vintage speed so expensive I'm sure ur local place could make u that exhaust for half the price
No doubt, but then I'd have to specify exactly what I wanted with no guarantee of the outcome re noise. I'm going to fit a new standard and see what happens.
I never thought about the noise but my empi not gonna see next winter I don't think done well but not gonna make it !! So think I'll end up with the vintage speed soon if I can twist Mrs Daisy's arm ,maybe do a few more weddings pay for it
I suspect the 4:1 header and silencer offers no improvement over stock. One thing I will say for Vintage speed is that they have the guts to say what engine cc / performance their exhausts are suited to. Nobody else does. I drawn my own conclusions.
