You remember that clutch cable!!!***

  1. So I followed all the advice and changed the clutch cable and was happy everything was fine. Left her overnight and the next day she started up fine and seemed fine in idle but whenever I pressed the accelerator I could not get any revs just a bit of stuttering. Could I have caused this. I am feeling very guilty!!

  2. I cant see how

  4. ^this, possibly. You did change the thick cable with the big wingnut on the end?

  5. The clutch didnt work ! It does now ! :)

  6. Clutch is working fine so I am happy that bit went OK. Can anyone give me a heads up as to the likely causes of lack of revs so I know where to begin looking.

  7. Ha ha haha:lol:

  8. I would begin at the back :)

  9. Check your throttle is opening when you put your foot on the accelerator (get a glamorous assistant to do it so that you can be looking at the carb on top of the engine). Also check that the auto choke has engaged. Thats a starting point.

Have you disturbed the throttle cable at the front underneath when you did the clutch cable?

  11. That was my thought. Youve been working around that area its a no brainer !

  12. Put your foot on the clutch pedal , goes it rev the engine

You might have flooded it with all the other mucking around. May be it will be OK in a coupke of hours time.

The main thing is that when simething else goes wrong its because YOU TOUCHED IT. It generally wont happen by itself.

So now the clutch works... but is the bearing in the flywheel in the gland nut shot and its dragging and not releasing fullym

Or the carb is now dribbling fuel..

  14. Carb keeps filling up with rust coloured debris so I am thinking the problem must be corrosion in the fuel tank. Am I right do you think as obviously this is another engine out job. Wish I had been more thorough when I replaced the sender unit. Ah well you live and learn.

  15. Have you got a fuel filter before the carb?

  16. Yes. The first time it would not rev but would udle I changed the filter and cleaned the darb. It drove perfectly for 5 minutes and I thought I had cracked it. Then it started stuttering and loss of rev. Opened the carb and found loads more much in there which looked rusty.

  17. New filter /s keep cleaning carb

  18. Even if your tank’s mucky, the filter should trap the rust. It shouldn’t reach the carb. Is the filter in the line from the tank?

As Senor Snotty says ^^^ The filtersjob is to stop the crap in the fuel system getting to the carb;). Now I don't know what filter you are using but can you see a collection of crap n your filter ? Because if the crap is getting to your carb ,it's got to come from somewhere. Either the filter is not working and is possibly in backwards or fresh crap is being introduced each time you work on it. The only way that I can think of fresh crap is if the innerds or guts of the fuel pipes or pump are being disturbed when you disassemble or reassemble things. Have a real good look just inside the pipes and have a look at how smooth the connection points are on the pump and on the filter. Then try and recreate it by cutting off a half inch of pipe and opening it up and give it a serious scrape with something sharp. Maybe a better quality filter as well because there does seem to be a contamination issue here somewhere.

Ozziedog,,,,,,,,,,, I don't mind dirty but this is getting silly:)
