Yellow paint code

  1. Anyone got any idea what the paint code/name is of my 69 early? I think it’s an original VW colour as I have seen a few the same colour. I’ve done a few repairs so need to blow in a few areas for now until I have done all the rusty areas then will do a full respray. Thanks in advance, Andy

  2. The original paint code should be on your M-plate.

  3. Hello Andy,

I don't think that this is an VW original color... overview at my website:
    http://www.vw-t2-bulli.de/de-colors.html

There are more special colors for companies - as well as for post, military, ambulances, taxis, ...
    But not common for camper.

So look at your M-plate (options = German "Mehrausstattungs"-plate)
Use online tools as https://www.vw-mplate.com/ or books.

For repair go to a shop with a color scanner -
or as a more imprecise but simple method use a RAL color fan with RAL codes and names:

Go to your local paint supplier and they should have a spectrometer, probably as accurate as you’ll get, yellows are a bugger for fade!

  5. Thank you both. I have checked the M plate. Turns out it was originally Elm green so that didn’t help. Interesting though.

It looks like it might be the cadmium yellow postgelb at the bottom of the bulli.de list.
As its yellow it has probably faded a little so you will do best at a paint shop where the old guy comes out and looks at it then matches it, while the yoof is still trying to calibrate the paint scanner...
