I used to work as a motorhome fitter. For small motorhomes my company used to use a small but neat unit that fit in a standard triple surround. It had a battery level indicator bank of neat trip switches that covered Batt main/leisure w/pump lights aux and more importantly weico fridge. It sorts out the split charging. It came with simple connections for the two batteries, mains charger earth and then you just plugged in the fridge ect. It has been only available to the trade but I had the manufacturer over for a cup of tea and he said he was thinking of making it available retail. It is I think cheap and neat. I will be fitting one to me mates T5 in the next month or so. Wondered if it would be worth taking a few photos and doing a how to?
Deffo chap, there's always gonna be someone needing a solution for split charge system and as always price is important
yes i would i use a Sargent one or mount the bits separate i think there is a market for a small one for campers and most are for big motor homes even the Sargent one is too big It has been on my list to do but never got round to it the hardest is getting the faceplate looking good Maybe he could sell it as a kit for people to make themselves
The sargent one comes with mains and a good stage charger and is about £240 so one without mains would need to less
Was thinking about electrics today. I have a JK split relay at the moment and need to get a leisure battery so I would be interested.
Definitely sounds interesting, presumably if it was a retail item it could be fitted by a reasonably competent numpty like me?
Definatley keen to see it. Will have a bus in soon needing the whole LB side of things redone and renewed.
When I first hooked up with the then to be MrsTW she had a caravan in which was a plastic box for the battery and at one end some electronic wizards which took in the hook up supply and sent it either to the 3 pin sockets or converted into 12v for the battery and 12v sockets and lighting.
Haven't started on this part yet but obviously it's something I've got to do, post it up mate, it'll be another option atleast?
Definitely interested. Ideally I am interested in something that charges both batteries in a safe trickle type way when on hookup so you can run off the leisure battery when non hook up is available but then top up both batteries as well as running off mains for the van when you can get one. I use a C-Tek charger for the batteries at the minute and have to remember to fit it every now and then.
Defiantly interested! Starting to rebuild mine in a month and wanted a system that can charge leisure batt from mains hook up but also change 12 to 240 to spread around the van!
