Wiper motor parking - drive crank angle

Discussion in 'Mech Tech' started by Dave Le Van, Jan 16, 2020.

  1. Before fitting my freshly lubricated wiper motor mechanism back into my '79 Bay i thought check the Interweb to make sure all the angles are correct etc.
I am pretty sure the motor/mechanism is original and untampered with but looking in the so called Bently manual i found this:
    Park3.jpg
Whilst mine, in Parked, looks like this:
    Park1.jpg

If i adjust mine, as in the Bently manual it would look like this:
    Park2.jpg

I know I am probably being anal about it but i do like to know that it goes back together as VW intended,
    Oh, and i read this:
    Park4.jpg

So, what are peoples thoughts on how the crank position on the motor should be on a RHD '79 Bay?
    - apart from "chuck it in and drive it" ;)

  2. Long time since I did mine, but I recall Bentley is wrong, and the crank should be 180* from the position in their pic. Others will know for sure.

Bentley is wrong; the top pic is correct.

  4. I set mine up as per Bentley and fell about laughing when I tested it out and the wipers proceeded to clean the headlights:D

  6. Thanks Mr Snot, that was exactly my thinking.
The Bentley manual is probably based on a LHD vehicle, which it maybe correct for.

  7. :)

  8. Someone on here pointed it out ages ago. Stopped me from making the same mistake!

Your top pic is how it should be for a German manufactured bus LHD or RHD where the wipers park on the right. Bottom pic per Bentley the wipers park on the left.
