    hammer and insurance excess.

jewelers rouge but to be fair you'll only get small scratches out anyway

  3. my mechanic said jewellers rouge (whatever that is) or brasso for fine scratches. not tried either :)

  4. A new screen isn't a massive amount of cash, or insurance job if you prefer.

jewlers rouge is brick dust. Fact. Buy a new windscreen. Even if you have zero cover you can get a new one fitted for less than £100

  7. Cheers all, i will think about replacing it. thanks bracklough

I think a new windscreen is best - I have tried polishing with a product called 'Liquid Glass' I found in a Trago Mills store on a West Country trip.

It uses cerium oxide as the abrasive - which is meant to fill fine scratches by melting with the friction of the polishing pad, as well as grind down the surface.

It works quite well but the amount of glass you have to remove when going for the deep scratches leaves a small distortion which is nearly as bad as the scratch.

It would have helped if somebody hadnt picked up a chamois leather covered in diamond grit or similar and wiped the inside of the screen somewhere in the last 39 years.

My mother, god rest her soul, used to wipe the condensation from her windscreen with the back of a gloved hand. Her engagement ring made mincemeet of the windscreen.

  10. turning on the wipers with no wiper blades on ,does not help either... :-
