Windows out...

  1. Hi,

    Quick question;

I need to change all my window seals as they have shrunk in the cold, wet UK weather. Realistically, how long should a window take to fit and is it possible for just me to do it?

I think you can do it on your own but much easier with a second pair of hands.
Time is one if those awkward ones. They can go in easily or be a pain!
Quickest way to remove them is a Stanley knife if the seals are knackered anyway.

T o avoid damaging paint, slip a stanly knife, set for depth, down the side of the glass and cut through the internal bit. Then lift the glass out and pull out the rest.
As BS says, how long is a piece of string? Do them one at a time and it won't matter?
The rear side ones can be the worst. I spent 4 hours on one, then went to fit the other expecting the worst and it was done in 2 minutes. All the others are easy, though some people struggle fitting the windscreen.

  4. Thanks guys, the windscreen seal is done as it was smashed sometime during the import so I've got away with that.

I want to get them in asap as at the moment they leak a bit and are stopping me from adding in the interior and door cards etc as I don't want them to ruined...but as it will be just me doing them on my lonesome, and in the current amazing British spring we are having, I didn't want to find that they take 6 hours each and need 2 pairs of hands, just as it starts snowing!

I suppose the other problem is rust in the sills, but I won't know that until I get in there...

Next question, where to get the best seals from and I'm also thinking of going for deluxe ones as that's what is OG on my bus.

    C&C were good for me.
    Avoid Status.

  6. Is bigrich still about? I seem to remember back on the old TLB we had a conversation about seals and CoolAir do the nice deluxe ones...

I'll check them and C&C out.

  7. we have been after window seals for our bus. we found that mega-bug seemed better quality. more exspensive but they are as good as the originals we took out. we found that seals from schofield, c & c, status etc were flimsy. depends how much you want spend i suppose. :)

  8. I did mine a while back, seals from C and C also. It is a bit tricky on your own as you need to hit the seal while pulling the cord really. Mine took about 1/2 hour -45 mins each, tailgate was the easiest, windscreen was a cow but lucky you have got that done, put the new seals in really hot water before you fit them onto the glass it makes them a lot softer and easier to fit

C&C used to do different priced ones. Buy the best you can afford as the cheap ones are crap.

  10. I got mine from C&C - just got the tailgate to do. I figured it was worth spending a few extra quid to get the best seals as I hope it is not a job I have to do again.

C&C for mine too as they sell the ali delux trim for early seals.
Perhaps the question you should be asking is what brand seals are the best.

Hi Frankie, I can't work out where you're from but if it's somewhere near Cambridge/Peterborough then I could pop over and help. I changed all my seals last year and it's much easier with two people. I also work for chocolate biscuits. :)

  13. Hi, thanks for the very kind offer but I'm near Bournemouth. Shame, as I do have biscuits!

Oh well, I'll have to buy my own biscuits then! Good luck with the windows. If you're doing it outside I'd do them one at a time.
