Windows Out - New Seal In

Discussion in 'General Discussion' started by MadFrankie, Apr 4, 2013.

  1. Hi,

Just bought myself some shiny new window seals and deluxe trim from bigrich at CoolAir so this weekend will be spent removing the winter cover and dusting off the VW.

Does anyone have any tips or tricks, I can't seem to find a how to anywhere, (yet I seem to remember there was one).

Does silicone spray and a bit of vaseline work wonders, what cord is strong enough, should I vactan to lips before I put the windows back in etc etc etc?

Your help greatly appreciated, I shall be taking copious amounts of photos to write up next week to help others...

  2. Be prepared for rot in the window surrounds. You won't like what you find...:(

  3. Wax oil the window frames while the windows are out and don't use washing up Liquid is has salt in it I think .
A second man would be helpful but saying that I did mine on my own .
And warm your new seals in a bucket of water and don't smash anything :)

  4. WHS ^^ Wax oil and soak in very hot water. I used washing line cord, the nylon stuff coated in plastic.

All went in ok other than the windscreen, it was a cow

  5. A bit of lube, ky or otherwise helps the windows in...

  6. I use earth cable only small ish stuff and I get all my windows in but of you don't warm the rubbers abit you can rip them with your cord .
I got my window screen in on my own with some wood and cord it was not easy I'm just inpatient :)

And I used washing up liquid then found out I should not have but all the windows are comeing back out soon anyway for a clean up and wax oil abit more .

  7. I used pull cord from my local lawn mower shop. Works a treat

  8. Autoglym Fast Glass is a good lubricant, non corrosive and dries off quickly with no difficult to clean residue.

    Hey up.
Did you manage to start this in the end? I think Lisa and I are down at the end of the month if you need a hand?

  10. Was going to text you next week about that. If you are down, and the weather is dry we can get on with this if you are ok to help - Free lodgings, tea, biscuits and then rum...
