Ever since the van came off the road years ago, how to make the panel conversion window area look half decent has been bugging me. Finally took the bull by the horns - and quite pleased with the result even if I say so myself Before After
Looks great. I recently used stretchy carpet for the first time in my beetle. Nice stuff to work with.
That looks well nice. Was thinking of getting the stretchy carpet for the bulk heads, but didn't want to cover up the m-plate etc, so have been dithering. Does look tidy though judging by ^^^
It's really forgiving stuff - and with varying thicknesses of ply covered with it you can make some great profiles Cover the whole bulkhead and just cut around the M Plate. You need brand new blades and they only last a few cuts - believe me!
Great result @secondtimearound , looks sweet Did my bulkheads - very easy to use , ask @CollyP Got it from these folk :- https://www.megavanmats.com/lining-carpets Well worth getting their adhesive as a package with the carpet , give them a call - very helpful .
I've just ordered some of this stretchy carpet and spray adhesive pack, 1 can per metre of carpet. Assume you spray adhesive the panel then lay the carpet, how much play do you have once it's applied? Do you use the hook blades or straight blades? Do you mark with pencil and cut to the line, like wall papering ?
Apply to both, let go tacky. Normal straight blades are fine, but buy a jumbo cheap pack as they blunt quickly. Doesn't feel like it stretches much at first, but it does with some persuasion!
Is it ok in really hot weather ? I’ve had glued linings come down on cars in hot or even damp weather ?
I've gone for silver carpet to hopefully do the roof after I've perfected it on the door cards. I contemplated dark grey, but my van is a tin top so wanted it as light as possible, rather than dark and hearse-like.
Thanks. When doing door cards, do you wrap over the edges onto the back face, or cut flush with the edge of the card?
