Nice post. I like the nozzle tip tip.

  3. That nozzle tip is awesome & simple, why haven't I thought of it? ;)

  4. dont use wd talc is all you need

  5. I used clear waxoyl recently - I read about it in a VW resto book. It provides lubrication and sits under the new seal providing rust proofing.

    Works a treat.

  6. Also use parachute cord (search for paracord on eBay)

Its just the right thickness and nice and smooth so it slides out of the rubber easily.

  7. i use rac window fitting cord , cause my friend eddie used to work for them ::) ::) lol lawnmower cord id as good owen nw :-X

  8. sounds like an add for durex
Its just the right thickness and nice and smooth so it slides out of the rubber easily owen nw ::) ;)

  9. Good tips Owen

  10. waxoil easy poped out again and collects all the crap behind the rubber ;)

  11. Zed

    Zed Gradually getting grumpier

I fit them dry and without talc with camping washing line. :)
Top simple tip for windscreen learnt from a professional - make a loop opposite the ends so you can get top and bottom in together. No more broken winscreens.

  12. Back in the 70s they said use soapy water ie a block of plain old fashioned saop in water, which is not at all the same thing as washing up liquid which is either Sodium Laureth Sulfate SLS , or maybe Sodium Alkylbenzenesufonate if it's an older formulation. SLS is the main ingradient for shampoos and hand wash too.
Waxoly is probably too slippery to stop it coming out again. WD40 appied very thinly with a finger will work as engineers use it as a rubber lubricant but might also be too slippery. I once put in a windscreen using vaseline! Lasted 10 years to my knowledge. Not sure I would risk it again.
I like the talc idea. A bit of lubrication but not too much. Surely the main objective is to have DRY seal, to keep the water out.

  13. i did my back window today using furniture polish we use it on the extra big shopfront glass like the nozzle trick though

  14. that is one of the two things i am paying someone else to do. man from autoglass in his lunch break £10 a window includes front and rear. 80 quid for no ballache. snap. and he will add windscreen sealant to properly seal everything so nothing drips down my neck any more.eeeewwwww.

  20. i used a 8 1/2 months pregnant woman to refit my windows

not sure if the being pregnant bit helped but she did a good job

although we did almost have to remove the steering wheel to get her in the front of the van
