got a new engine in my bus and only done 50 miles or so in it. At the minute the right speed feels about 50. my question is will it get faster as it wears in? as things loosen up a bit? If not how can I get the engine to feel as if 60 is the right speed?
settle for 50 if its a new engine, change the oil at 250 miles & again at 500..it'll loosesn up with time. Shee what the oils like at 1000 miles and go from there it may need setting up in between (thats the plan for us on Gusbus' 1641 when we get him roadgoing)
Maybe you just stopped worrying Bern? Use all the revs is most important, but do it without you foot on the floor, be kind to it.
its a 1600. it runs alright and ticks over nicely just seems as though the it needs just one more gear
They like the revs, more cooling, don't lug it. 25-30 in 2nd, 45 in 3rd is fine. In fact if you change to 4th at 40mph it'll probably virtually stop accelerating! It should be happy as Larry at 55-60-65 in 4th. They are noisy, it's air cooled so no water jacket to damp the noise down. That's all part of the fun.
Took your advise zed and put more revs though her but she still only likes 50-55. I guess I will just have to get used to the queue behind me. Funny thing is my work van is restricted to 55 so it feels kinda normal
