Why is you only feel the cold when a warm bit of you touches a cold bit?

  1. I noticed this whilst camping and was sitting on my hands to warm them up.

I see the smut potential of this post :) but it is a genuine question I would interested in getting an answer to.

i guess its a reality check - hey this is warm i must be cold .

i get it when i get into bed after a night shift -- oooh Lou's warm :)

on he dqwnside she says " christ -your cold !" ::)

  3. Its heat transfer as the warm part of you touches a cold part heat starts to transfer to the cold part
your body notices the drop in temperature of the warm part and increases blood flow to the outer layers of your skin to try and maintain your temperature

  4. Neptune's moon Triton has a surface temperature of −235 °C

Uranus is a little warmer at -215.0 °C - which is a relief

  5. Is this why when you jump into some really cold water you are at risk of having a heart attack as all your blood rushes to every extremity?

I know this as I once went white water rafting in Scotland in January - I wouldn't recommend it.
