Well, the first answer you've said yourself so I'll move to the second.
Most warranties aren't worth the paper they're written on. I'd guess you'll have to stump up yourself.

  3. i would have thought the seller and buyer, would agree to a cambelt change at the time of purchase factored into the price,
whos to blame ...its gotta be camper jam..:(

I've always found Renault to be pretty good on warranty items - they even re polished a wheel for us!

Though I suspect yours may not be a Renault warranty as they are only 3 years standard and then you can pay extra for the fourth year.

Best thing to do is give warranty company a call. Also speak with renault customer services 0844 335 0000, I've found them to be helpful and may also contribute to the cost - also I'm presuming you've had it serviced at the correct intervals.

    Who is your warranty with?

IF you have full service history etc, then call Renault they can be very good, if not the warranty company should cover it, but check on the age timescale for the belt as well as the mileage one, you may be questioning the mileage as genuine or not too.

  6. it's not as straightfoward as measuring the mileage. Renault will have some blurb to say 96k or within x years. cam belts deteriorate over time so I tend to change them when i buy a car just for my own peace of mind.

Think cambelts are normally 5 or 7 years.

  8. Is with the garage we bought car from . I did ask for a cam belt change but is wasn't due for nearly 40k

  9. did they confirm that the cam belt was okay?

If they said it was ok, try proving that - unless you've got it on email there is no hope.

How much is it going to cost, how much will warranty company pay and what if any will Renault pay - I'm almost certain they will contribute.

  13. Have just come off the phone to renualt and they gonna have a look at the damage and report back... So fingers crossed eh

    Good news...

    Is the car with Renault?

Did you call head office - number I gave you and what has warranty company said?

  15. My local garage who recovered the car say a new engine as it got no compression at all

  16. Yes car with renault now .. Just a waiting game now !!

Of course there is no compression the belt has snapped and therefore the top of the engine is not in cycle to the bottom.

Sometime back in the day, depending on engine if belt snapped you might have been lucky to time up the engine/get top and bottom back in sync, fit a new belt and everything was ok. Can't remember which engines maybe @zed or @Paul Weeding knows?

  18. good luck ,i think they will be fair if full renault history , i had volvo n clutch went before expected time and they replaced that no charge n you would think their would be loads of let outs on a clutch , the thing people do seem to forget alot is airbag maintenance now theirs a whole new can of worms

  19. Thanks for all your wise words chaps will keep you posted as I think this will go on and on and on ..........!!!

  20. it's 5 years for senic and its 3k off the full term of the cam belt. Ive dealt with Renault before and found them to be a right PITA. keep going at them though and they'll usually offer something. in your case, you are within their service intervals (Just) so it should be fairly straightforward. The last one I had was a 3 grand engine (not sure how they came to 3k but hey ho) Renault offered 20%. keep pecking at them though as you've treated the car as they advise
