  1. Sorry mods, not only did I mess the title up first time I posted this bit I posted it the wrong place!!

    Anyway......................

Hi all, going to pick up my wheels on Monday and have been given the option of 4.5J up front, as appose to 5.5J all round.

Having never run this on a bus before, and always had 5.5j all round, just wanted to hear from anyone who has this set up. How do you find the handling and steering? Anything else good or bad about it?

Tyre wise it will be 185-65-15 out back and 165-55-15 up front (yes I know, but they look cool)

    Cheers

  2. I had BRMs on my splitty - 4.5s up front with 165/65 & 5.5 out back with 195/65 - made the steering a lot lighter and felt more direct, but then splitty steering is not fantastic in the first place - gives a nicer 'tuck' I think with 4.5s on the front without having to narrow the beam...

and here's a photo before I fitted the BRMs - it had 5.5j Empi 5s with 185 tyres if I remember (can't remember the profile) before I lowered it, but you can defo see how much narrower it looks at the front now..

  3. how low and narrow you going?
the offset has a lot to do with it.
I'm running 5.5 with 165/65/15 up front on a 4" narrowed king and link beam

  4. maybe worth searching on vzi or the samba forums as well.....

  5. Now that is an interesting and tidy spilt there!

  6. Thanks for the posts guys, gone for 5.5 and 4.5 up front with 185 65 and 165 55 respectively.

Only down 3.5 inches at the front, with an offset of 20 all round, so will appear narrower at the front due to the offset being relevant to the width of the wheel.

    Can't wait to get them!!

  7. Should be fine mate - I have got 5.5 empis with an offset of 20 on the front of my late bay with 175/55 tyres, (195/65 tyres out back) dropped on beam adjusters, standard width beam and it looks like this (so yours should be narrower with narrower tyres & narrower wheels)..
