Which condenser?

  1. I just took delivery from JK of condenser and points. I think it's my fault for not paying enough attention, but the plastic plug on the condenser is like a rounded off square, while the hole in my SVDA dizzy is just square.

The description for the JK condenser (J10199) says:
"Condenser VW Beetle 1961–1998 T2 Bay 1973–1979 and Bosch 009 Distributor"

Obviously not a '71 then. I think I was tired and read this line for the points (J10515) twice:
    "Ignition Points Beetle 1970–1979 T2 Bay 1970–1979 & 009 Distributor"

Does anyone know the correct part for the square hole? Or am I just devoid of the knowledge needed to put this round 'peg' into it?

  3. I figured out what the problem is. I think.
The capacitor itself is supposed to have a cutout on it, which engages into 3 sides of the bung when it's screwed to the body of the dizzy.
Or I'm supposed to have a clip/clamp that goes around the cap, doing the same thing, which is missing.

  4. You’re right. Some caps have a frame that the “bung” slides into. Screwing the condensor into the dissy clamps it in place.

I think the round type would hit the moving points plate in the SVDA so they had to switch to the square hole which takes the wire through a bit higher up.
On the 009 the points sit still as the action all happens down below.

The little forked metal plate is hard to find except on scrap SVDAs at swap meets..
I lost one of mine when I went to electronic modules but eventually found it again.
