Which adhesive for front badge?

Discussion in 'Mech Tech' started by WillP, Oct 20, 2013.

  1. Have a slight facial problem...the badge fell off, thankfully a kind passer by put it under the windscreen wiper.

I stuck it on about 4 months ago with 'Stedflex' which is a polyurethane based goop. Thought this would have been ok but seems to have reacted with the paint and eventually come loose.

Anyone else come across this? What goop should I use? I'm reluctant to drill holes and would rather use adhesive.[IMG][IMG][IMG]

I have said this before, but mine is now well into year 3 and its held on with bluetac. I'm sure it will fly off one day....but it keeps proving me wrong. If your going down the glue route then surely panel glue or seem sealer won't react with your paint.

  3. bluetac.. Really!

Yep, visited a classic car show at Wickstead Park and entered the any marque section at the last minute. The badge was still in its packaging under the seat and we stuck it on temporarily with the only thing we had. I've pulled it off once to clean the front panel and put it back with the same 3 blobs. Tempt fate every time I tell anyone:oops:

  5. Is your paint cellulose or 2-pack? PU stuff may not like celly.

  6. Just drill it and use the clips ....if you want I'll drill it

  7. Acrylic based maybe? It's just rattle cans from halfords, says the formula should be ok with cellulose so maybe PU would have the same effect?

Blutac is an option but I thought I was winging it with adhesive sealant!

The panel seems to be slightly curved so the badge doesn't sit flat on the surface so not too sure about double sided tape.

Will see where the clips go, hoping they won't interfere with the filled holes from the old spare wheel mount.

In the meantime, anyone know if a similar adhesive sealant that doesn't react with celly?

    Cheers for the tips.

  9. Sticky back plastic it worked for blue peter  But tiger seal should work as it doesn't react with anything.
