Where do I get one of these?

  1. Just done some googling and it seems they should have a hole/vent.

My JK one doesn't, nor does the Heritage one by the look of it

The pointy bit should be split so that pressure can get out as the split opens but dirt can’t get in when it closes. It shouldn’t have a hole.

  3. Pointy bit is completely sealed on mine!

But it should be split so it opens with pressure.

    What 77 Westy says.
I wonder what uncomprehending idiot had those made?

  6. ^this. There should be a slit in the end, like a whoopee cushion. I’d send that straight back to JK.

It should also have a moulded "button" on the inside that clicks into a hole in the down tube to stop it falling off. I bet it doesn't have that either.
How sad. A part that looks a bit like the original is all you could say for it. As much use as a chocolate spark plug.

  8. JK describe it as a “boot”, so maybe they don’t understand what it’s for anyway.

Machine7 sell the same thing but at least they describe it as a valve. A bit of a cop out, the original instead of coming to a point had a small straight section about 1 or 2mm long on the outside with the slit formed in that, not cut after.

"These Oil Filler Drainage Pipe Valves are designed to fit to the bottom of the Oil Filler Drain Pipe.
They must have a slit cut in them before installation, to ensure that the engine can still breathe properly.
If these are installed without a slit cut in them, they can increase crankcase pressure and cause oil to leak from the weakest seal on the engine."

I wonder what JK think the purpose of this part is then...

£2 profit. If you look around, ALL suppliers worldwide are selling the same pointless garbage in this case and many others. They must use the same cash and carry.

  12. Bunging the end of the pipe up? Pretty self-evident what its function is...

  15. Why not actually cut the end off a whoopee cushion and cable-tie it to your vent pipe?

Your engine would then make a variety of farting noises, according to crankcase pressure

  16. there are enough farting noises coming from my bus already

  17. Didn’t vw do away with the vent pipe on later models?
I’m pretty sure my engine didn’t used to have one

There was a point where it became officially wrong to drip oil onto the road.

That breather box/oil filler on the silly angle it is...well it's daft that's all.

  19. I got a brake light switch boot from JK today. Exactly the same: the cable holes aren't moulded through.

I think it avoids the cost of having an expensive tool with retractable cores. Just make a cheap tool and squirt some Chinese "rubber" into it.

  20. I messaged JK, In fairness to them they have said mine was wrong and they will send me one with an opening.
