Where do/ did these wires go

These 2 wires appear out of the loom near the battery connection both not connected to anything , any ideas what they are for ? Thank u

 

Most likely the diagnostic box so can be safely ignored.

Yes the where for the VW computer diagnostic plug. They connected to either end of the battery earth strap and measured the starter motor current draw which gave you the relative engine compressions.

 

That is quite impressive for 70’s technology!

 

Thank u so much that’s put my mind at rest will keep& tidy them away just in case that technology is needed when we all have to convert to hybrids!
