Whats the best bodge youve uncovered on your bay?

  1. The more i cut off my van the more funny bodges im finding.
The previous owner in 2008 had used fibreglass to make a mould of the front of the wheel arch inner, then fille it with newspaper, reciepts and haribo packets, then some foam stuff and bodyfiller ontop,
Which must have been way more effort than just putting a repair panel in!!

Also they stuffed the belly pans with brown packing paper and crisp packets, i can only assume for sound deadening?

Has anyone else found any funny stuff?

  2. The pillar above the jacking point was filler.

Defo a dodgy repair. Also found the mail from 1982 stuffed behind a panel then more filler.

    The bloody cheek.

No Bodges but some serious lack of repair to rotted areas , i suppose that was good really o_O

  4. My indicator stalk was/is held together and made to work using tissue paper, chewing gum wrapper and string.

  5. nothing to note really .but strange cut out at the top of the fire wall and then covered up with some strange stuff had me head scratching for while when we first got the bus ,then realized they had cut a section out to access the fuel sender..

  6. My PO attached the wooden battens to the pop top with nails, which came through the fibreglass. What an arse.

Time is unimportant to the accomplished bodger. The fact that they could have done something in a quarter of the time with the correct part, instead of old coke cans and newspaper, means nothing to them. They need the warm glow of bodgy achievement - it makes them feel special.

I think it's lack of parental approval during childhood that spurs them on...

A sill made out off expanding foam
A engine access hole cut with a blunt axe
Doors lower have made of filler so when I fitted some door seals and slamed the door the bottom fell off

  9. Not on mine but on my dads prototype bay. When removing the front panel we find it did not have any metal along the bottom edge (just under the VW badge) but was made of some very well molded bodyfiller. He has kept a section of it, which was about an inch thick, as a memento
