What's gone wrong( don't read if you don't like football)

  1. Oh my word, maybe Chelsea will do a Newcastle! However, as Utd don't seem to be able to convert any of their umpteen chances I'm not expecting a goal fest today,

With doubt!! I think there's a little bias here!

Spurs and Chelsea deserve to be 1 + 2, i just disagree with the order! If there was an even playing field ( our poorer form coincided with CL campaign) throughout the season then I think we would be closer or ahead ;)

Scratch that, we were superb. You did us 4 0 early on and then 1 0, I told you we were improving and today we looked better than you all over the park. I know it's only one game, but the difference in our performances in the three games is really satisfying. You will still win the league ( deservedly so ) I hope you don't wobble and do a Newcastle though! :):)

So every so often I feel it's my duty to bring this thread back down to grass roots non-league level, and with 2 league games 'til the end of the season, I set off to watch the mighty Salisbury FC this afternoon - safe in the knowledge that we're in the play-offs.
The trouble is, at non-league play-off level, it's very important where in the table you end up - not just because 5th plays 2nd, and 4th plays 3rd - but also because it determines home advantage in the semis and then home advantage for the highest finishing team in the final. We've been in 4th for quite a while (doomed to an away semi), but managed to get up to 3rd on Saturday, with only a point between 2nd and 3rd, and then 4th another point below that.

Our opposition for the day... Wimborne Town, currently languishing in mid table obscurity in 10th.
With 80 minutes on the clock, having managed to equalise at last, only to then concede another, Salisbury were not looking to make my drive home a particularly happy one.
Losing 1-2 was not in the plans. Especially as the team in 4th place, one point below, had comfortably thrashed their opponents 4-0 in the early kick-off, and the team in 2nd one point above were hanging onto a draw. All change and suddenly we're back down in 4th again.

No amount of singing and shouting at our boys seemed to be doing any good, and the 12 travelling supporters from Wimborne were definitely having the better day out. They'd even brought a drummer!

Suddenly, with 8 minutes left on the clock, and after some gobby cow in the crowd shouted "Come on, they're making you look average" (no idea who that could have been ), we've equalised again.
And then scored another. And then got a penalty. And with a minute of added time left, we've scored again!!!
Oh glorious day. 5-2 at the final whistle! The team above us only managed a draw, and we're up to 2nd place.

One game left of the season. It's all in our hands now. If we can win away from home on Saturday, it doesn't matter what the other 2 teams do.
    Nail biting stuff!
Who needs Man U and Chelsea? ;)

I often go to Kiddy harriers with my old school mates. I know about suffering and looking average!

I shall be looking at Salisbury FC's results now. Good luck.

  19. I shall be looking at them too @scrooge95 :). I spent today at Sheffield Utd (Sarah's team) and they've finally won their league!

Blimey, I remember back with the old club (Salisbury City, before we went under and 'had a year off') playing Kidderminster in the Conference Prem. They were a pretty good club, and I think at least one of our players went up there when we started having financial troubles and wages didn't get paid.

I'm rather fond of Bramell Lane; a few years back we had a very good away day there in the third round of the FA Cup... little non-league Salisbury City against the mightly Sheffield United. We lost the game of course, 3-1, but we won the singing!
