what tyres (sorry)

Discussion in 'Mech Tech' started by bluething, Aug 6, 2013.

  1. what tyres would be recommended for 15 x 5.5 rims. the pickup is standard ride height with a 2ltr type 4 engine and box. At the moment it's got the standard steel wheels on it with I'd guess factory spec tyres. can I just swap these straight over to my new rims? two are practically new and the rear two would need replacing.
cheers! and sorry if it's a bit of a thick question but tyres choice isnt my strong point.

    Stock are 14" so won't fit a 15" rim.

  3. oh okay, but the pickup has 15 inch steels on it. I think these were standard for commercials

Ah right, you can swap them then!
Personally I'd want proper commercials with an adequate speed index but a lot of people leave that to chance.

  5. The current ones are commercial rated just wondering if they're going to look stupid on a blingy wheel. also bothered about width. I suppose I'd better check the current size and come back with that info. :)

The only tyres that'll look good on bling wheels are low profiles though, and this'll bugger up the ride and gearing!

  7. All type T2's had 14" rims period. if it has 15" rims , then someone has swopped them from a Syncro ( that were available in 14",15" and 16")

Actually I would LOVW to see some pics of your van with the 15", as its a mod I've thought of often. What size tyres are they, 185/65/15?

  8. Mine is on these.

    With 195/65-15 Tyres.
The actual rolling radius is slightly bigger than standard (corrects my speedo perfectly) and the comfort level is easily as good as per std tyres.
The profile height is 140mm std versus 127mm on these but 25mm (1") bigger wheels.

  9. got me thinking now! I was almost certain I read them as r15's. I'll have to check tonight when I'm back at said pickup.
