  1. Zed

    Zed Gradually getting grumpier

Well worth doing though. Surface rust turns into pitted rust turns into holes, lets water in and screws the blummin lot.

  2. Thanks very much all....time to start finding "products".....any pointers?

  3. any suggestions for primer-filler. Aerosol or not etc

  4. I'd be surprised if you don't have a few holes around the gutter once you clean the paint/rust off. That bit usually rusts through from the inside. It really is a bad design, two layers of metal are really close together there. I think the fact that most camper conversions have people's heads up that end doesn't help as it leads to loads of condensation on the inside of the roof which runs down and sits between the frame and roof skin.
Get some aerosol dinitrol ML with the probe and squirt it down there.:)

Contact local council and ask if they have any garages.

If you don't want to do the work yourself most body shops should be as to help.

I can recommend panelkraft in arlesey

If you can get the rust cleared off by removing the rust and preparing the surface of the metal then putting filler over the gaps and making it waterproof with a reasonable number of coats of paint, then the rain will run off the outside, and the rust will slow down. If you leave it, it will get worse.

  10. Bilt Hamber has some excellent products, I have had very good results with their Hydrate 80 Rust Treatment, as someone said above you have to be aggressive and clean back with a poly wheel or similar but it certainly worked for me. You then need to finish with a paint cover but no new rust has appeared in a footwell that I did in Aug but haven't yet painted, so seems good to me. I'd do the engine lid as a priority.

  12. Just a thought, i would makes sure you sort the gutters as priority, once they go, big trouble. Whilst the engine bay lid looks nasty, it could all be sorted with a new door (either new or a good used from ebay). I would get paranoid about the gutters...
