  1. Rights ladies and the few gentlemen on here its time to get a new sat nav again. Ive always had Tom Tom found them easy to use and great if you have a problem.

Im looking at the TomTom Go 6000 as I want traffic and lifetime map updates for use in Europe.

Now am I being too blinkered what are Garmin ones like to use. Has anyone got them.

Has anyone got the GO6000? Any good?

I used to like the google live services on my old one.

  2. Never used one since google maps integrated theirs into the app for smart phones. The turn by turn on it is good and free.

  3. I use a free one on my iPhone - works ok :)

  4. apparently according to bettys which mag the latest garmin is tops , ive had garmins for years , my latest one is not as good as one before you cant fix it to motorway routes ie it drifts off onto other roads sometimes which is a bit of a deal ,even the yanks moaned about it but new one is supposed to be good , all mine have been nuvi europe , great in europe even round paris . Betty's tom tom i think is more precise at turns and roundabouts .

  5. After many a stressfull journey from getting lost I downloaded a free sat nav app for my phone. I though it would be pants but it was spot on. Got me from Peterborough to middle of Romford, which I had never been to before, with no mistakes. I spoke the directions and showed it on a map. As good, if not better than any sat nav I have been able to use in the past.

The app is called Navigator, there is a free one and a paid one. No idea what the difference is as the free one didnt have adverts or anything. I recomend it

  6. I had to take my garmin back as I do house calls fixing lifts ect and every time I turned it off could take upto 10/15 mins to get a signal , went back to my tom toms again no problem as ever !!!

  7. i found mine was like that if it wasnt fully charged , but if i got another id prob go for tom tom in this country anyway .

  8. I've used tomtom around the world and it's never, ever, ever let me down

Maps on iPhone etc really good but @Rustydiver specifically said about Europe. Used iPhone in Spain once - got about 30 miles before data was eaten up!!!
    Had Tomtom - always worked.
Can't say I've ever had Garmin

  10. only reason i went for garmin years ago was because i used them on my boats n i never got lost n theirs no roads out their and because tom tom was crap then . you do get used to particular type , i like the add ons for finding other stuff too . I used mine cross country in the mountains n on off road tracks in spain and france and it was brilliant .

  11. I had a blind Serbian guide who couldn't speak and had no arms and legs who could point me to the toilet which was 3 feet in front of me and I could see with my very own eyes, and his instructions were a thousand times better than Navigator

  12. Sorry peoples i Don't own a iPhone just a crap phone. To me a phone is for sending texts and making calls.

I want a stand alone sat Nav.

I've had tomtom for years and found it good across France and the odd time I got lost in Venice.
With better mapping now they are much more accurate, minesa few years out off date now.

  13. Garmin excel at sea, but are Marmitee at land navigation, but it also depends on what you want from it. If you want a satnav which maps ROADS choose a tomtom. If you don't want to navigate to SOMEWHERE choose something else

  16. I've done all of Europe bar Russia, Turkey, Canada, all over USA, Mexico and China. The only time tomtom let me down was when some knobhead (me) used the wrong 12v charger and it burnt out. Then I turned to tomtom on my iPhone.

  18. read which report , my previous garmin was brilliant in europe drove all over never got lost once , this one not so , if you dont use one how can you coment , i dont generalise i give my opinion based on what ive used and tried . taking the pee just doesnt prove anything , as said garmin was the best tom tom have got better but im old enuff to have tried them both when tom tom were crap too.

  19. I like the look of both so going into chavfords to have a play and feel with the sales assistant to see which I like  Then come home and be a tight git and search for voucher codes.
They got one on special £20 off plus if I reserve and collect online I get an extra £20 off. Now no wounder people get more stuff via the net.

I don't need it till April so in no rush.

Last week one of the boys wanted a game he was going to download from steam for £37 I sad no its a bit dear so looked more online and currys had it for £17 but only if you reserved it online otherwise it was £27 if you just walked in off the street.

  20. I use Tom Tom Europe on my iPhone & it's never let me down in the UK, France and Portugal. Traffic is good as well. I assume standalone TTs are much the same.
