I have a 1977 Bay with a TV engine. And I'm servicing the Calipers. Does anyone know what make these ones are?
Hydraulic line connection point has no bearing on the make, but you can tell if it is Girling or ATE by looking at the brake pad backing plates, springs and pins, check out this diagram:
so the question is: Do my Callipers have part 8A or not; Answer No, so they must be ATE ! Another question: where did the diagram come from please? And do you have another one showing only the piston & seals assembly for the ATE model please?
Yes they sound like ATE never seen of anyone with a Girling Caliper.... The diagram is an original VW Microfiche from the most excellent ratwell site http://www.ratwell.com/technical/Microfiche.html#wheels What are you trying to find in more detail than what is in the diagram? That's the most detailed I think there is.
This raises a question since I just replaced my discs and pads. I was given ATE type pins in the fitting kit, but they wouldn't fit so I put the originals back on which are presumably Girling type. They do have part 8a. But...does this make any difference to the type of pads needed. It seems to stop OK.
