What is this and what is it for?

  1. I'm doing a pretty thorough restoration to hopefully end up with a rot free useable van. I should know what the purpose of the metal box with a large black circular type of inspection hatch is for but don't so would appreciate is you can let me know.

I need to do some repairs on it so as well as understanding what it's for, how to I get the hatch off without damaging it as I would be more comfortable understanding what is in there before starting to weld.

It’s an access panel so you can get to the rear of the fuel filler neck to replace it if needed. It’ll prise off with a screwdriver.

  4. As above, sometimes called the paint tin lid, you can see the tank filler pipe playing 'peek aboo' to the side of it.

Its where you keep your stash...

But mainly for access to some of the fuel filler assembly hose clamps.

It also lets you see some rusty holes in the wheel arch if you use a mirror and a light.

And on mine there is a random bit of 7mm hose teed off the fuel filler elbow hidden in behind the paint tin lid for a future FI fuel return..
